As part of the KIPP network of high-performing college-preparatory schools, KIPP West Philadelphia Preparatory Charter (KWPP) was founded in 2009.  Sited at 59th and Baltimore, KIPP West is proud to be located in the heart of West Philadelphia.  In 2009, KIPP West opened its doors to the aspiring college-bound class of 2017, the founding 5th grade.

Today, KIPP West Philadelphia Preparatory Charter currently serves 270 students enrolled in grades fifth, sixth, and seventh.  Students at KIPP West attend school from 7:25 to 4:20 engaging in core subjects such as math, reading, non-fiction, and writing.  Each day students benefit from enrichment courses to reinforce their literacy and mathematic skills.  KIPP West also offers unique courses such as art, step, and service-learning.  KIPP West supplies students with rich learning experiences through the exposure of diverse ideas and concepts.  The culmination of these courses develops our students into well-rounded leaders equipped to serve their school and community.

In its first year of operation, the founding 5th grade students made extraordinary academic gains.  The academic growth KIPP West students have made show such results are achievable by establishing a culture of academic excellence.  KIPP West's school values of achievement, grit, unity, leadership, social intelligence, integrity, and zest empower our students to excel and persevere as they climb the mountain to college.

KIPP West Philadelphia Prep will expand one grade every year until it reaches full capacity with approximately 340 students enrolled in 5th through 8th grade.
